PEAK console crossplay won't transfer your PC progress

PEAK’s announced October 22 console launch could solve your group’s platform problem. It will not carry your PC progress across. Landfall promises crossplay between Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, while explicitly ruling out cross-save. For an existing PC player considering a console copy, a second copy needs a clearer reason than the crossplay label.

Crossplay answers who can climb together. Cross-save answers whether moving between machines brings progress along. The first is promised; the second is absent. Buying another version to join friends is therefore a different proposition from buying it as a portable continuation of your existing game.

These are announced terms, checked October 20, not results from a console test. GameGuideDog has not played the console release, tested mixed-platform joining or verified its performance. The useful question before launch is whether the published limits fit the people you actually intend to play with.

Budget for the group, not just the copy

Landfall lists the console digital price at $9.99 USD. Separately, our October 20 US Steam metadata check returned $7.99 with no discount for PC. Neither figure establishes your local console checkout, currency conversion or tax. A PC listing is not a console offer, and the console announcement is not a worldwide price guarantee.

The FAQ also says console multiplayer requires an online subscription. Offline solo does not. That extra condition matters more than the small sticker price for someone who does not already subscribe and only wants occasional sessions with friends. The evidence does not establish which named subscription tier your account needs; check the relevant platform’s terms before paying.

For a group already spread across platforms, crossplay could remove the pressure to buy on the same machine. It does not erase the subscription condition for console players or give an existing Steam owner transferable progress. Decide which problem you are trying to solve before treating a second copy as an obvious upgrade.

Bring friends; do not buy for matchmaking

The console FAQ says there are no current plans for matchmaking. The PlayStation announcement describes climbing with up to three friends. Together, those statements support a friends-first buying plan, not an expectation that the game will automatically assemble a public team for you.

Landfall’s older Steam-friends wording remains elsewhere in the FAQ. Read that alongside the newer console crossplay section, rather than using the older paragraph to cancel the launch announcement. It also does not establish how console invitations, account linking or joining codes will work. No detailed cross-platform invitation procedure is verified here.

Someone with a willing group has a clear reason to follow launch day. Someone buying alone specifically for automatic teammates should pause: crossplay increases the promised platform reach, but it is not a substitute for a matchmaking system. Offline solo remains a separate option, without the console online-subscription requirement.

A save caveat sits beside the cross-save answer

Patch 2.6.a explains that non-host saves do not contain the complete world state available to the host. Team PEAK warns that switching from the original host to another player’s saved run can still produce oddities around item spawning. This concerns continuing a run; it is separate from transferring progress between platforms.

The later 2.6.b notes report fixes around late joining and revival-related badge eligibility. Those are developer repair claims, not proof that every save or connection problem has disappeared. The latest five-post official feed checked October 20 still includes both notices; this bounded check does not establish exhaustive current-build safety.

For a group planning to continue runs, the host distinction deserves attention alongside platform choice. A broad crossplay promise cannot answer every saved-world question. Nor should an older bug acknowledgement be inflated into a claim that the unreleased console versions are broken.

Landfall also says PEAK has received its final major content update, while bug fixes and maintenance continue. That puts the purchase in perspective: choose the climbing game and group setup being offered, rather than buying on an assumption of endless new content. Maintenance is not a promise of another major expansion.

What to check on October 22

Team PEAK says PS5 includes the prior content updates and custom runs. Its Steam announcement separately describes a physical PS5 edition shipping later this year, not on the digital launch date. A box preorder should not be treated as access for an October 22 session.

For now, choose around your group’s platforms, subscription needs and willingness to keep progress separate. At launch, the next checkpoint is actual store availability and delivered joining behavior. For another co-op buying decision, read our Go-Go Town 1.0 analysis, or browse the gaming archive.
