BeamNG on PS5: strong downloads, important PC limits

BeamNG.drive finished second in the US/Canada and third in Europe on Sony’s October PS5 download charts. For a console edition released on October 19, that is a notable opening placement. It is also a good moment to check what the PS5 purchase actually includes, particularly if your idea of BeamNG comes from the PC version’s mods and creation tools.

Interest in the console release and a good fit for your plans are different things. A high chart position cannot make a missing editor available or move an existing PC garage across. This is a reported buyer analysis based on Sony’s chart, the store and BeamNG’s support documentation, not a hands-on review or a performance test.

A strong chart entry, not a sales total

Sony’s November 4 chart puts BeamNG.drive behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 in US/Canada. In Europe, Modern Warfare 4 and EA Sports FC 27 sit above it. These are regional PS5 download rankings; Sony excludes upgrades and supplies no download-unit or revenue totals.

The October 19 release also means BeamNG was available for only part of that reporting month. That makes the placement interesting, but does not provide a fair day-by-day comparison with every other entry. There is no basis here for a global sales claim, a retention estimate or a declaration that console players now outnumber PC players.

For a prospective buyer, the rank is a reason to take a look. The feature list is what should decide the purchase.

The PC features you should not expect

BeamNG’s PS5-specific feature matrix lists three omissions: mods and the mod repository, World Editor, and VR. It also rules out transferring PC progress, saved vehicles and settings. A PC owner moving to PlayStation starts again rather than bringing that setup along.

This is the buying decision that matters. If a particular mod, an edited world or a saved vehicle collection is the reason you want to play, the console version cannot currently carry that plan over. If you want to start with the console sandbox on its own terms, those missing tools may be less important. Neither conclusion requires pretending we have tested the driving ourselves.

There is a documentation wrinkle worth catching before checkout. The store’s general description mentions creating a map, while the dedicated PS5 support page explicitly says World Editor is unavailable. For this checklist, the platform-specific support page controls: do not buy the PS5 edition expecting the PC editor.

The studio says it aims for parity where possible over the long term, without confirming timing or scope. That leaves room for development, not a dated promise that your preferred missing feature will arrive. Buy for the documented version, not a presumed roadmap.

Ratings do not settle the feature question

The US store showed a global average of 4.78 out of five from 18,857 ratings when checked on November 4. That pool is neither an October-only sample nor a US-only result. It cannot tell us how every buyer feels about the missing tools.

Four displayed owner texts illustrate why the distinction matters without establishing a consensus. DaddyD2244’s October 30 review complains about absent mods; sebastian18670’s October 19 post welcomes the console arrival. Another October 19 owner, BlackDriftKing1, expects mods later. That last point is the reviewer’s expectation, not an official commitment. These are individual examples from a tiny sample, not evidence that everyone agrees or that the audience is evenly divided.

Check the platform before buying again

The PS5 edition remains in Early Access, as does the PC version. That status explains why development continues; it is not a schedule for closing each feature gap.

The US Standard Edition was $24.99 on November 4. That is a dated US price, not a worldwide console price. BeamNG also requires a PS5-compatible steering wheel if you plan to use one; check the manufacturer’s platform support rather than assuming a PC wheel will work.

Our recommendation is straightforward: treat PS5 as a separate starting point. Keep the PC version central to your plans if mods, World Editor, VR or an existing saved setup are essential. Consider the console release against its current feature matrix if they are not. The chart shows a strong debut; it does not erase those boundaries.
