PlayStation Plus puts Final Fantasy XVI into June's catalog, but the June 16 rollout is already uneven

Sony's June catalog headline is real. The awkward part is that store labeling is not lining up cleanly across regions yet.

Sony’s June PlayStation Plus Game Catalog is live enough to matter on June 16, but not clean enough to flatten into one global “everything is ready” post. Sony’s official blog says Final Fantasy XVI and Gitaroo Man go live globally today. The more useful check is what the store is actually showing by region, and that picture is already uneven.

In our June 16 recheck, the UK PlayStation Store search surfaced Final Fantasy XVI with an Extra label. The Japan store search surfaced Gitaroo Man with a Premium label. The US search still showed Final Fantasy XVI as a paid PS5 Game Bundle result at $49.99, without the same Extra tag in the observed result block.

What Sony officially says

Sony’s June 10 PlayStation Blog post says the June Game Catalog lineup includes Final Fantasy XVI, Sonic X Shadow Generations, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, Farming Simulator 25, Blades of Fire, Black Desert, and Premium classic Gitaroo Man.

It also says Sony is “exploring new ways” to deliver Game Catalog titles on varying dates in select markets. For this cycle, Sony lists Final Fantasy XVI and Gitaroo Man as globally available June 16, while several other titles are pushed later in the month depending on market.

That caveat matters more than usual, because the store readout is not fully synchronized.

What the live store check shows right now

The cleanest signal today is that the June 16 beat is real, but the labeling is still messy.

The UK storefront already tags Final Fantasy XVI as part of Extra. Japan’s search result for Gitaroo Man already tags it as Premium, and the product page shows a June 16, 2026 release date. But the US search result for Final Fantasy XVI still presents it differently, with the paid bundle result visible instead of the same membership tag Sony’s UK storefront is already exposing.

That does not prove Sony’s blog post is wrong. It does mean players should read today’s update as a rollout with regional wrinkles, not as a perfectly uniform switch flip.

The useful player takeaway

If you are checking PlayStation Plus today for Final Fantasy XVI, the honest advice is simple: check your local PlayStation Store, not just the blog headline. Sony clearly positioned June 16 as the global headline beat, but its own regional storefronts are not presenting that handoff in the same way yet.

The same caution applies to the rest of the June catalog. Sonic X Shadow Generations already had earlier US, UK, and Japan dates. Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Life is Strange: Double Exposure are listed for June 23 in those markets. Farming Simulator 25, Blades of Fire, and Black Desert are listed for June 30.

So yes, this is a real PlayStation Plus update. It is just not a clean one-size-fits-all launch story.
