Modern Warfare 4's campaign trailer makes the October dates worth watching

3 min read

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 now has a campaign pitch with some shape. Activision’s Tokyo Game Show trailer puts Captain Price on the run, turns former allies into pursuers, brings Valeria Garza in as an uneasy ally, and sets a second front around a fictional invasion of South Korea and a weapon linked to an enemy called Archer.

That does not say whether the campaign is good. It does make the preorder question more concrete. Activision says digital preorders of the Standard Digital or Vault Edition get campaign early access beginning October 16 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. The publisher’s stated launch date is October 23.

This is a clearer setup, not a quality verdict

Price’s break with Task Force 141 is no longer background lore: Ghost and Gaz are ordered to capture or kill their former captain. Valeria becomes the ally Price would normally avoid. Alongside that manhunt, Activision lays out the Korean conflict and an unknown weapon being moved to Archer.

Those are story beats from official material, not proof of mission design, pacing, performance, or final narrative quality. Anyone looking for that kind of confidence still has to wait for something beyond publisher-controlled footage.

The date split should stay visible

For buyers, the dates matter more than trailer speculation. Activision says October 16 for campaign early access and October 23 for launch. Steam’s app metadata captured for this package displays October 22, 2026 instead.

The sources do not explain the difference. Use Activision’s October 23 wording for the official launch, note Steam’s October 22 field when PC date precision matters, and do not present either as a confirmed correction of the other.

Steam listed a $69.99 U.S. base price, Windows support, and no user reviews because the game is unreleased. That is enough for a buyer watch, not a demand story or technical recommendation.

The useful buyer read

The TGS trailer gives Modern Warfare 4 a more legible single-player hook than a generic recap. If campaign access is why you would preorder, October 16 is the concrete checkpoint. If you are waiting for proof of how the finished game plays, this trailer does not provide it.
