Lightyear Frontier 1.0 keeps old saves, but check your farm

Lightyear Frontier left Early Access on November 4 with a story ending, two new regions and earlier automation. Returning farmers can keep their old saves and do not need to buy the game again, according to FRAME BREAK’s FAQ. But keeping a save does not mean keeping every part of a farm unchanged: the launch notes warn about unstable structures collapsing and water connections that need rebuilding.

The first job on returning is a farm inspection. A restart is optional. The developer’s October 26 ownership FAQ and November 4 patch notes answer different questions. Read them together before assuming a familiar setup will work exactly as it did in Early Access.

Keep the save, check the farm

The 1.0 FAQ says existing saves remain playable and the new achievements work with them. Starting again is optional. The studio recommends a fresh save for a more natural progression through its balance changes, but says players caught up with the Automation Update can continue into the endgame.

The repair warnings are in the launch notes. Corrected structural-integrity calculations remove cases where floating structures or overly generous support checks had allowed constructs to stand. The developer warns that some may collapse because they were never meant to be stable. This is a warning about affected constructions, not an announcement that every old farm will collapse.

Water Reservoirs have a separate migration issue. A fix moved the output position slightly, so existing pipes connected to that output no longer function and must be rebuilt. A save loading successfully therefore does not establish that its water setup still works. Check those connections separately from the supports holding up your buildings.

What 1.0 adds to the return

The main story now has an ending. Sandswept Highlands and Hollow Marsh expand the map by roughly 40%, according to the developer. That figure describes the studio’s world-size estimate, not a measured increase in playtime. For returning owners, the practical distinction is new places to explore and a conclusion to work toward without a required reset.

Automation also starts earlier, at Milestone 4. Automation Pipes replace Automators, and the launch announcement describes pulling resources directly from storage. Returning players should read that as a change to the production system, alongside the specific Reservoir warning, rather than assume all automation changes are new content that leaves existing layouts untouched.

Ownership and the next update

At our November 5 check, the U.S. Steam listing and store API showed $23.99, down 20% from $29.99. That is a regional storefront observation, not an Xbox price or a charge existing Early Access owners must pay. The FAQ explicitly says their existing copy updates to 1.0.

The launch post says the team plans at least one more large update, while leaving its contents unspecified. That is newer than the FAQ’s uncertainty about major future additions, but it is still a plan, not a dated roadmap or a reason to treat unannounced content as included.

For another game’s separate save and world-generation rules, see our Valheim returning-player checks. More coverage is in the PC-gaming archive. For Lightyear Frontier, the immediate decision is concrete: continuing is allowed; inspect supports and rebuild affected Reservoir connections before treating the old farm as ready to run.
