Insider Magic: Oink adds a spell to its 300,000-copy series

3 min read

Insider Magic reaches Japanese advance sales on October 17–18, then general sales in Japan on October 23. Oink Games is adding speech-altering magic to its question-and-answer party-game series, which the publisher says has passed 300,000 copies in its tenth anniversary year. That figure belongs to the Insider series, not sales of this new box.

The timely hook is more specific than an anniversary. An October 13 announcement adds a promotional question card for the launch event. For buyers, the bigger distinction is between a new standalone game and an expansion: Oink says Magic works on its own, with new topics that do not repeat Insider or Insider Black.

Help the Insider without giving them away

The publisher’s setup puts the Insider and Villagers against one Warlock. The Insider knows the secret answer; the group needs to reach it without letting the Warlock identify that helper. Magic cards interfere with how players speak, including whispering or talking like a robot.

That creates a clear group-fit question: do your friends enjoy performing under pressure, or would they rather concentrate on deduction? The speaking restrictions are the announced hook, so treat them as a reason to try a demo rather than assume this is simply more of the old game. GameGuideDog has not played Insider Magic; this is launch coverage, not a review.

Oink lists three to eight players, about 15 minutes and ages nine and up. Those are publisher specifications, not evidence that every group size plays equally well. At a demo, ask to use the player count you normally gather and watch how the speaking restrictions affect quieter participants.

Which October date, and what does the bonus include?

The Japanese announcement lists ¥2,970 including tax, or ¥2,500 at Game Market Autumn on October 17–18. Oink’s current event notice places its booth in Area 57. These are Japanese launch and venue details, not a confirmed worldwide street date or delivered price.

The October 13 promotion is one extra question card, themed around Oink’s games. It accompanies all Insider Magic copies sold at the event; Oink Games TOKYO also offers it while supplies last. Do not assume other retailers include it.

Before importing, check the specific box language, local stock and shipping total. The useful test for Magic is whether its forced voices improve your group’s guessing game. The series’ sales cannot answer that.
