GT7 Spec IV: what Part 1 adds, and what waits for December

Polyphony’s final update 1.72 notice documents the first part of Gran Turismo 7’s free Spec IV update, but the full package still spans two releases. Sportsland SUGO and six cars belong to October. Autumn Ring, another six cars and Family belong to December. Treating that whole package as the October 15 update gives returning players the wrong calendar.

The final 1.72 notice, read October 15, describes the October additions as introduced. The earlier roadmap supplies the separate December assignments. Our reading is that October chiefly gives circuit, garage and progression reasons to return, while December holds several of the new social and competitive reasons. That is an analysis of the announced schedule, not a verdict on features we have played.

The final notice also lists the new Spec IV opening cinematic. October entries reflect that release documentation; December remains the roadmap checked October 15. We have not installed the update or verified regional rollout, download size or identical feature support on every platform.

October gives the garage a stronger reason to open

SUGO is the straightforward return hook for someone who wants a new circuit. The final notice names six cars: Citroën 2 CV 6 Charleston ‘86, Ferrari F355 Berlinetta ‘94, Honda Civic Si Group A version ‘87, Honda Step WGN Spada Premium Line ‘23, MAZDA RX-VISION GT3 EVO ‘26 and Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo. This is the publisher’s roster, not a list inferred from promotional screenshots.

The garage tools address the time between races. The October 14 preview describes Vintage as a catalogue of cars from 2000 and earlier, with links to Used Cars and Legend Cars. The final notice says Car Concierge requires completing Menu Book 39 and watching the ending. Experience covers Hyundai, Polestar, Xiaomi and Yangwang; Car Viewer lets players examine and photograph their cars.

Those descriptions suggest a broader collecting-and-driving loop than a track addition alone. They do not establish cheaper cars, unrestricted stock access or an easier credit grind. The practical question at release is whether these tools make finding and enjoying the cars you want less cumbersome, not whether a menu screenshot proves the economy is repaired.

The final notice sets the Collector Level cap at 90, giving collectors another checkpoint. That figure comes from release documentation, not the level indicator in a supplied promotional screenshot.

December is the date for different ways to play

If the reason you are waiting is Family, October 15 is the wrong checkpoint. Kazunori Yamauchi’s PlayStation Blog post places that mode in December and describes a welcoming entry point for people with different driving experience. Whether it succeeds for a particular household still needs actual play; the accessibility intention is not a tested finding.

December also groups Shuffle Race, which uses randomly selected cars, with Online Drift Trial and the next evolution of Gran Turismo Sophy. For someone interested in those competitive or AI changes, the second release is the more relevant appointment. No measured improvement in race behavior or challenge balance follows from a roadmap name.

The Power Pack difficulty addition needs the same care. It is listed in December for advanced players. That wording does not establish that every existing paid product becomes free or settle a player’s product-specific entitlement.

A calendar, not an anniversary verdict

The original Gran Turismo’s 30th anniversary is in 2027; these 2026 updates start the celebrations. That context explains the combined presentation, but players still have to evaluate two deliveries separately.

For circuit and garage interests, the final 1.72 notes now provide a concrete checklist to compare with your installed game. For Family, Autumn Ring, drifting or Sophy, keep December as a separate checkpoint until an exact day and fuller terms are confirmed. Neither the publisher’s crowd description nor blog counters establish representative player sentiment, and this article makes no quality score or performance recommendation.
