Conan Kickstarter: choose the €89 reprint or €99 new content?

3 min read

Conan’s latest Kickstarter has a substantial audience, but the useful decision is not how many miniatures you can fit on a shelf. It is whether you need the original game or more adventures for a box you already own.

In our October 8 check, third-party tracker Kicktraq displayed 3,662 backers and €677,374 pledged against a €75,000 goal for Conan by Monolith: Tales of Tortage and Zamora. That is a dated tracking snapshot, not verified sales, delivered games or a quality verdict. The official Conan website says the campaign closes October 15.

GameGuideDog has not played these expansions. This is a reported buyer analysis, not a firsthand review.

Two pledges, two different starting points

The official licensor’s October 1 breakdown lists these options, before VAT and shipping:

Your starting pointAnnounced pledgeContents described by the licensor
You do not own Conan€89 King PledgeOriginal core game and original stretch goals in two boxes
You already own the core game€99 Board Game New Content PledgeTortage, Zamora and the Origins Box

These are different purchases, not a €10 upgrade ladder. The expansions require the core game. Buying the new-content bundle alone is therefore not the route into Conan for a newcomer. Existing owners should check their collection before paying for another original set.

Check the turn structure before counting figures

Monolith’s core-game description puts energy management at the center: spending gems pays for actions; resting recovers resources. In the classic asymmetrical game, one Overlord controls the enemies against one to four heroes. That gives your group a more useful question than whether the campaign looks generous: does someone want to run the opposition?

The licensor also describes Solo/Co-op play with scenario-driven enemy commands. This campaign is not the invention of that mode. Check which scenario and mode you plan to use rather than assuming every box means the same kind of evening.

The distinction matters because collecting more content and finding a format your group will play are separate decisions. A pledge counter can show attention. It cannot show whether your friends will enjoy budgeting actions or whether another campaign box will leave the shelf.

New locations, not a tested verdict

The official descriptions give Zamora a tower with connected levels and Tortage playable ships with separate deck and hold areas. Those are concrete reasons for an existing owner to investigate the expansions. They are still first-party descriptions, not evidence from our playtesting.

Budget for the order, not just the pledge

The licensor reports September 2027 as estimated delivery. That is not stock available now or a guaranteed arrival date. Shipping and VAT remain outside the announced pledge prices, and we have not tested destination-specific checkout totals.

Before backing, match the pledge to what you own, check the rules and current campaign contents, then confirm the full cost for your destination. Conan has real observed crowdfunding attention. Whether it deserves your money starts with the game you intend to play, not the largest pile of components.
