Arkham Horror: Remastered brings the 2005 board game back through a Gamefound campaign scheduled for October 21. With the launch six days away, the useful distinction is simple: Fantasy Flight Games is reopening its second-edition design, not announcing a shop release for a new third edition or another box for Arkham Horror: The Card Game.
The remaster has a concrete reason to exist beyond a familiar name. FFG promises clearer rules, revised graphic design and new art while retaining the older game’s core play. The buying question is whether those changes and the eventual campaign offer justify a new box for your group. What is coming back, and what changes
FFG identifies this as the return of Arkham Horror Second Edition. Its official product page explicitly traces the gameplay to 2005. Investigators work to stop an Ancient One from taking over; the announced changes concern presentation, components and rule clarity rather than a claim of an entirely different game.
The publisher describes quality-of-life adjustments, cleaned-up rules and artwork created for the board-game line. Its September announcement also emphasizes readability across the table. Those are useful things to check in the actual rules and component previews. New graphics alone do not establish a shorter session, easier setup or better balance.
Someone who already owns the old game should therefore compare specifics: can the revised layout solve a problem your group actually has, and what does the campaign include? A returning player and a newcomer need different answers. Neither should assume that a remaster label establishes compatibility with an existing collection. October 21 is the crowdfunding start
The announced date is a Gamefound campaign launch, not a verified retail street date or delivery promise. FFG calls it its first crowdfunding campaign and the first project in its Vault Series. Its current October livestream schedule also points to an October 20 discussion of the project, ahead of the campaign.
FFG says the campaign will explain expansions, stretch goals and bonus content. That does not establish that every expansion is included in a base pledge. We have not verified final pledge prices, shipping charges, taxes, delivery estimates or the full language offer. In particular, this announcement does not confirm a Polish edition.
Compare the offer, not the nostalgia
The Outerhaven’s September 24 report frames the return around renewed access to an older game and its expansion ecosystem, while questioning what crowdfunding will cost buyers. That is useful context, not proof of demand or a reason to buy an all-in package.
When the campaign opens, compare the core pledge with the larger bundles, then add your actual shipping and tax. Check what each expansion changes, which language is supplied and whether the delivery estimate suits your plans. If you already own Second Edition, look for an explicit compatibility statement before treating old expansions as part of the value calculation.
