AION 2’s October 5 commercial launch opens free-to-play entry after paid Advanced Access. It does not make every economy feature free or every later server move unrestricted. NC’s official launch material gives new players a more useful starting point than a large audience number: decide where your group will play, then understand what membership actually unlocks.
This is reported launch-service analysis, not our review of the MMO. GameGuideDog has not played AION 2 or tested its economy, queues or performance. The launch-policy snapshot below was checked on October 5; the FAQ and newer transfer conditions were rechecked on October 14. They explain decisions before entry; they cannot promise an available character slot or a satisfying long-term game.
Free entry and economy access are different
The official FAQ describes free play with optional monthly membership. It says membership provides access to the player-driven economy and currency exchanges. Optional purchases also include cosmetics and a Battle Pass. The complete FAQ was rechecked through NC’s Steam announcement API at 16:42 UTC on October 14.
That distinction matters if your reason to try an MMO includes trading rather than simply reaching its opening quests. Free entry lets you investigate the game without a compulsory subscription, but it is not evidence that all economic participation is available on the same terms. Check the features you expect to use before treating the entry price as the whole cost.
The September 30 product notice also lists currency, consumables and storage-related vouchers alongside cosmetics. Calling the shop cosmetic-only would omit relevant products. Equally, the existence of paid consumables does not establish how fair the economy is over months of play. Neither the publisher’s assurances nor an early review accusation substitutes for that investigation.
Current regional membership checkout prices were not verified for this article. NC’s July letter is historical pricing material, not a fresh Steam or Polish billing quote. Do not budget from an old monthly figure without checking the current product and storefront.
Agree on the server before creating characters
NC’s server notice gives the selection order: region, faction, then an available server. Servers are faction-specific; opposing-faction servers are paired for cross-faction modes, and those pairings can change.
A paired opponent is therefore not the same thing as the server where your friends are creating characters. Share the actual region, faction and destination rather than assuming a matching region name is enough. Use the live official table, not a screenshot of a launch list: it changed during the October 5 research pass.

The publisher’s July access explanation says non-purchasers may join existing Advanced Access servers at commercial launch if those servers are open and available. Paid access before launch should not be rewritten as a universal paid-server requirement now. The qualification still matters: a published server name does not prove there is room for another character at the moment you log in.
Transfer windows do not guarantee a reunion
The newer transfer-product notice, checked in full on October 14, divides access into two weeks. NC lists Early Access servers after the October 13 PDT / October 14 CEST maintenance until the next week’s maintenance; Launch servers follow after October 20 PDT / October 21 CEST maintenance. Check the notice’s regional application hours rather than assuming continuous availability.
Transfers remain within the same faction and region. Early Access departures can only reach Early Access destinations. NC limits the whole period to one transfer per account, from one server to another; either server reaching its transfer-capacity limit can prevent a move.
The notice lists a base cost of 0 Quna and 0 Quna per transferred character, but extra destination character slots cost 1,000 Quna each. Calling every move simply free would hide a possible cost. Characters must be at least level 10 and meet further conditions, including clearing outstanding market, shop-storage and mail items. Read the complete product notice and Q&A before acting; these are published service terms, not a transfer we have completed in the client.
NC also describes instanced content, including dungeons, as cross-server in the retained launch material. Shared activities and moving a character remain separate capabilities. A transfer window does not guarantee that a split group can reunite.
Client choice is not a separate population
The FAQ says Steam and PURPLE share servers and in-game content. Steam-only play does not require linking to PURPLE; using the same character and progress across both clients does require account linking. Progress from the Taiwan or Korean versions does not carry into the global version.
Official support is for Windows PC on Steam and PURPLE. The FAQ does not provide official controller, Linux or Steam Deck support. That is a support boundary, not a hands-on finding that a particular device cannot run the game. Its listed UI and subtitle languages do not include Polish, another practical detail for a Polish-speaking group to check before committing time.

The sensible first move is coordination, not a purchase recommendation. Agree on region, faction and server; check current availability; decide whether membership-gated trading is essential to your plans. Free entry is an opportunity to assess the game. It does not resolve its longer-term quality or the value of every paid product.
